Dental crowns
A crown is fitted when a filling is impossible, when a large part of the tooth is missing or when the tooth may break – most often with devitalised teeth.
A crown restores the correct surface and shape of the tooth and significantly improves chewing function and aesthetics.
Types of crowns
- metal (gold);
- with a resin facing;
- porcelain-fused-to-metal – the strongest and most aesthetic;
- ceramic;
- the newest – with excellent aesthetics and a zirconia base.
How it is made
After a local anaesthetic the tooth is prepared and an impression is taken, from which the dental laboratory makes the crown. A temporary crown is placed on the prepared tooth for about a week.
