Prevention
Oral hygiene and regular check-ups at the dentist’s are extremely important – for adults and for children.
For adults
- Toothpastes
- What matters is regular brushing, not so much the type or brand of toothpaste. Most toothpastes have almost the same composition – these are general-purpose toothpastes. There are also special-purpose toothpastes, which the dentist prescribes during treatment.
- Dental floss
- Use it after every brushing, at least once a day. Wind both ends of the floss around your middle fingers and guide it with your index fingers. Slide it between each pair of teeth and clean the surfaces of both with careful movements. Do not press – the gum tissue is delicate. If your teeth have tight contacts, use waxed floss.
- Interdental brushes
- They come in different shapes and sizes and clean the spaces between the teeth. They are used when floss cannot be used or when the gap between two teeth is larger.
- Mouthwashes
- Use them after brushing. There are various mouthwashes for everyday prevention, and the dentist may also prescribe one with a different composition as part of treatment. Rinse for at least one minute, unless instructed otherwise.

For children
Caring for the teeth begins with the first tooth. Parents should build good oral hygiene habits in their child.
Regular check-ups are important!
Never frighten children with the dentist! Working with children is difficult, and unpleasant experiences in the chair at an early age often leave a lifelong fear.
There are various methods of protecting the baby teeth, and especially the permanent teeth, from disease – mainly from decay.
Fissure sealing
On molars and premolars, up to 2 years after they come through. Materials called sealants are used to cover the deepest parts of the chewing surface, where decay usually begins. The procedure is easy and quick and gives very good protection.
Fluoride gel
A special gel that is applied to all the teeth to protect them from decay. The procedure takes seconds; for a good effect it is recommended every 6 months.
The best thing about check-ups is that they involve no pain at all – a good incentive for the child to build a positive attitude towards the dentist. Have them regularly to prevent diseases whose treatment is unpleasant and stressful for the child.
