Endodontics (root canal treatment)
Endodontics treats the dental pulp and the complications that follow – periodontitis, apical granuloma, radicular cyst.
Patients often come because of spontaneous pain from a tooth while eating. It is caused by inflammation of the dental pulp (the nerve of the tooth) and calls for root canal treatment.
With modern methods the length of the root canal is determined with an apex locator. Good mechanical and chemical cleaning and the filling of the canal ensure treatment without complications and keep the tooth.
Pulpitis – inflammation of the dental pulp
The treatment is painless. Under anaesthetic the contents of the canal are removed and it is shaped with rotary instrumentation techniques (GT-Rotary, Pro-Taper, Pro-File etc.). The final aim is a hermetic, tight filling of the root canal up to its physiological apex with sealers (Topseal and Sealapex) by lateral or vertical condensation. There are also injection methods of filling with melted gutta-percha using the Obtura II and System-B devices.
